Topographic Mapping
Objective
It encompasses the group of procedures aimed at representing the Brazilian territory, in a systematic way, through a series of general, continuous, homogeneous and connected maps, elaborated in a selective and progressive manner, in accordance with urgent demands, in the standard scales of 1:1 000 000, 1:250 000, 1:100 000, 1:50 000 and 1:25 000.

Use of Information
- Within the Institute: National Cartographic System; geodetic surveys; composition of the Digital Topographic Map Service (conversion of cartographic documents into digital files); mapping of territorial units (State, Municipality, Other) municipal graph file (territorial units limits); Special Areas graph files (special areas limits); study of the political-administrative division; thematic mapping; identification and classification of states, territories and municipalities benefited with petroleum royalties, located on the costal zone; prospects of agricultural harvests, among others.
- Out of the institute: Users are the Ministry of the Army; Directorate of Geographic Services; Superintendence of Regional Development (SUDENE, SUDAM, etc); other governmental organizations; public and private companies; public service suppliers (water, electricity, etc) public and private educational institutions.
