The Monthly Survey of Mining and Manufacturing Physical Production - Brazil has produced short-term indicators relative to the behavior of the real product of mineral extraction and manufacturing industries since the decade of 1970.
A new series of monthly indexes of industrial production began in April 2004, based on the revised Monthly Survey of Mining and Manufacturing Physical Production (PIM-PF). This revision reached the following objectives: update the sample of activities, products and informants; elaborate a new structure of weighting of indexes based on more recent statistics of industry; and apply to the PIM-PF the new classifications of activities and products used by other surveys of industry since 1996.
The revised series was started in January 2002 and its implementation did not cause a rupture in the time series, since the previous series, which began in January 1991, was connected with the new one. This occurred in the categories of use and in the levels of activity, with four exceptions (edition, printing and reproduction of recorded media; office machines and computer equipment; medical products, appliances and equipment; and others).
The old time series (from January 1985 up to January 2004) and the new one (from January 1991 until now) can be directly consulted in the SIDRA database.
